Aging ala NVC, an online course beginning October 15,2025

“I thought growing old would take longer”: A needs based process to explore the depths of the aging experience.

We are creating a group to explore the transition from adulthood into late adulthood, the period of active aging.

Discussions will include what:

To expect when aging

It is like for us now as we age

We anticipate and what we can do to age as healthfully as possible

The group will also be an opportunity to learn more about ourselves, continue to appreciate our complexity, accept our limitations, develop a new kind of confidence & wisdom and simultaneously explore opportunities that shed light on areas we might be avoiding and challenged by.

Carl Jung believed that the work of discovering the authentic self was vital and generally only begins at or after midlife, when we start to outgrow the strategies and identities that served us in our youth. He wrote, “We cannot live the afternoon of life according to the program of life’s morning – for what was great in the morning will be little at evening and what was (true) in the morning will at evening have become a lie.

We will ask you to purchase the book, Wise Aging as a guide to our exploration.

Ellen Eisenberg and Sylvia Haskvitz, CNVC Certified Trainers with the Center for Nonviolent Communication. Ellen and Sylvia have been an integral part of a group called SAGE (Seniors Aging Gracefully and Enthusiastically) over the last several years. They have dived deep into this topic of aging and experience their own aging during their 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.

Sylvia has enjoyed seniors from the time she lied about her age and worked at a nursing home as a nurse’s aide when she was 15. She has loved hearing the stories of those older than her; what she described as learning from living history books. She is now part of the First Generation NVCers, those certified by Marshall Rosenberg, the founder before 1990. Age ranges from 68 – 85.

Ellen who is now in her eighth decade, has been facilitating an Aging Wisely group for almost 3 years.  She finds this period of her life, a time with challenges and deep reflection and learning.. She loves accompanying others on this journey.
